Cappy Cottage

Description

* Four star accommodation rating **** * Main Cottage - Double bedroom with adjoining bathroom / WC * Old Dairy Suite - Twin bedroom with en suite shower room / WC * Spacious Living / Dining Room with separate Kitchen off * Secluded courtyard and garden * Non smoking * Pet welcome (charges apply) * Friday changeover for weekly bookings * Short breaks on application * Welcome tray * Allocated parking space nearby * Full internet / WiFi access Cappy Cottage is situated in the heart of the magical Lamorna Valley, famous for its former artists’ colony - and for its timeless beauty and tranquility. Dating from 1840, but sympathetically modernised, this is the perfect romantic hideaway holiday home in which to unwind, and from which to explore the far west of Cornwall. Nestling amongst the trees in this lush “valley of the flowers”, Cappy Cottage is just yards from the Lamorna Wink Inn, whilst Lamorna Cove is only a short stroll beyond. This self-catering holiday cottage is able to accommodate 4 people in comfort. The main cottage, with its 2 ft thick granite walls, retains all its period charm. Off the ground floor hallway is a double bedroom and separate bathroom / WC, whilst, at first floor level, are the spacious living room, with vaulted ceiling, and kitchen. Although unsuitable for unaccompanied younger children needing supervision, the separate Old Dairy Suite (once the site of Lamorna’s dairy) offers the advantage of greater independence for two couples, or parents and teenagers, staying together at the property. It comprises a triple aspect twin bedroom, with en-suite shower, washbasin and WC. A shared utility room lies adjacent. The courtyard itself provides a perfect seating area for secluded external dining on those long hot sunny days - or just to relax and sunbathe. The courtyard opens onto Cappy Cottage’s partly lawned terraced garden, where care must be taken owing to the slope of the ground. Screened by mature trees and shrubs, the garden affords excellent levels of privacy. Diagonally opposite Cappy Cottage is the unspoilt but fully renovated Lamorna Wink PH, which now serves hot food at lunchtimes and evenings, and where the “fish and chips are as good as Rick Steins”. The bus service between Lands End and Penzance stops here. Lamorna Cove, popular for diving, fishing, its cafe and shop, is a short downhill stroll. The peace and beauty of the Lamorna is best experienced on foot. Do the valley walk, experiencing the tranquillity and breathtaking scenery as you go, or walk to the Lamorna Pottery with its shop and restaurant. For more serious walkers, the property makes an ideal base from which to venture along the nearby South-West Coast Path to Mousehole (recently cited by the Daily Telegraph as one of Britain’s Ten Best Walks) or towards the Minack Theatre at Porthcurno, and to visit local archaeological features such as the Merry Maidens stone circle - all within this special Area of Outsta

North Cornwall

Wilder and more rugged than the south of the county, North Cornwall is a land of tall headlands, sandy beaches and empty moorland – yours to explore from one of our holiday cottages in North Cornwall. The busy resort of Newquay is a major attraction, with its glorious beaches and fantastic conditions for surfers. Nearby Perranporth also boasts some fantastic beaches, perfect for sun-lovers. You’ll find many more lovely beaches, like those at Bude for example, waiting for you on one of our North Cornwall cottage holidays. This part of Cornwall has become a bit of a mecca for food lovers too. Rick Stein has put Padstow on the map and more chefs, including Jamie Oliver, are joining him, attracted by the quality of the ingredients available locally. Then there is St. Ives, long a haunt of artists drawn here by the wonderful light and inspiring scenery. A cottage holiday in North Cornwall puts you in touch with history from ancient celtic times to the days of the smugglers. Tintagel Castle, rumoured to be the birthplace of King Arthur, sits high on a cliff and still has a strange air of mystery about it.

South Cornwall

Wonderful scenery, a mild climate, sparkling blue seas and charming seaside villages make South Cornwall a firm favourite for cottage holidays whatever the season. And we have a fabulous choice of holiday cottages in South Cornwall from which to make the most of this lovely part of the country. The Cornish Riviera takes in some of South Cornwall’s most popular resorts and many of our holiday cottages in South Cornwall are located nearby. Picturesque Fowey is a haven for sailors, while the Roseland Peninsula is a noted beauty spot. Mevagissey, St. Mawes and St. Just are all well worth a visit. Not to be missed is the Eden Project, a fascinating recreation of different biospheres, featuring a wide variety of exotic plantlife. You should also make time for a trip to atmospheric St. Michael’s Mount and on to Land’s End, the most westerly point in England. The county town of Truro has a lovely cathedral and some excellent shopping opportunities, while Penzance is a bustling resort, famed for its warm weather and sub-tropical plants. And do make sure you sample the pasties, saffron cake and clotted cream – all local delicacies, – during your cottage holiday.
